The Nurses Act, 1985, requires the Board to make rules in relation to the operation of its main functions. The most recent set of rules were approved by the Minister for Health and Children in 2010.

In general, the rules provide the framework for the implementation of the Act, including:

  • establishing each division of the register;
  • governing the elections to the Board members;
  • providing for the colletion of fees.

The Board can also make rules in relation to any other areas in which Rules are not mandatory under the Act.
