The main functions of the Board are to maintain the register of nurses in Ireland and to give guidance to the nursing profession generally on all matters relating to ethical conduct and behaviour. The Board is also obliged to carry out such functions as may be assigned to it from time to time by the Minister for Health and Childern in relation to any directive or regulation affecting the practice of nursing and the persons engaged in such practice.
The Board promotes high standards of professional education, training and practice and professional conduct among nurses and midwives.
