Applicants who must successfully complete a period of adaptation

Following assessment by An Bord Altranais, the applicant may receive a decision letter indicating that a period of adaptation and assessment must be successfully completed as a pre-requisite to registration. For further information on adaptation please read the following information booklet.

Applying for Registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) or Advanced Midwife Practitioner (AMP)

Please note that you must have received an offer of an ANP/AMP post before you can apply for registration in the Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Midwife Practitioner Division of the Register. You must already have your name entered in the Register of Nurses and have an An Bord Altranais Personal Identification Number before you can apply for registration as an ANP or AMP. Please read the following information booklet before applying for registration:

Please email your request for an Application Form fo Registration as an ANP/AMP to registration@nursingboard.ie. Please quote your An Bord Altranais PIN number and postal address in this correspondence and an application form will be posted to you.

Please download and save this document. You can modify the document as required to create your ANP or AMP portfolio.

Re-confirmation of Registration for Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioners (RANPs) and Registered Advanced Midwife Practitioners (RAMPs)

All RANPs and RAMPs must apply for re-confirmation of registration. In order to fulfil this requirement you are required to submit documentation, every five years, to demonstrate that you:

  • continue to meet the criteria for an ANP/AMP
  • have fulfilled the core concepts for an ANP/AMP
  • have maintained and up-dated your competencies in line with the requirements of your role

You will be required to submit re-confirmation documentation five years from your date of registration as a RANP/RAMP with An Bord Altranais.  You will be notified in advance regarding submission of documentation for re-confirmation of registration.

The National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) have examples of application documentation for ANP/AMP posts (Job Description and Site Preparation) available on their website. This documentation covers a broad range of specialty areas and may be useful to reference while preparing documentation for ANP/AMP post.

The Provisional 2012 Schedule of Meetings for the Committee for Advanced Practice (CAP) are 15 February,  19 June,  25 October and  5 December.
