The appointed members represent the Department of Health,  the Health Services Executive (HSE), voluntary hospitals, third-level institutes involved in the education and training of nurses, and the general public. In addition, the Minister appoints one nurse, a person who is experienced in the field of education and three registered medical practitioners who must be practising in hospitals approved by the Board for the training of General nurses, Psychiatric nurses and Midwives, respectively.
