Scope of Practice

This programme is designed to assist all registered nurses and midwives develop their understanding of NMBI’s flexible Scope of Practice Framework. This programme covers the Scope of Practice Framework and how it applies to your day-to-day work.

The interactive scenarios cover many scope of practice situations along with guidance on how to work through key decisions.


The aims of the programme are to:

  • Promote continuous professional autonomous decision-making among nurses and midwives
  • Empower nurses and midwives self-reliance in the area of determining their own scope of practice
  • Encourage independent critical thinking among nurses and midwives
  • Assist nurses and midwives overcome barriers and obstacles to the use of the scope of practice framework as experienced by practitioners.

10/15/2014 - NMBI is encouraging all nurses, midwives and students to read the new Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics which is now available for download from this website. The Code helps nurses and midwives in caring for patients and clients in a safe, ethical and effective way.
