Scope of Practice

This programme is designed to assist all registered nurses and midwives develop their understanding of NMBI’s flexible Scope of Practice Framework. This programme covers the Scope of Practice Framework and how it applies to your day-to-day work.

The interactive scenarios cover many scope of practice situations along with guidance on how to work through key decisions.

The aims of the programme are to:

  • Promote continuous professional autonomous decision-making among nurses and midwives
  • Empower nurses and midwives self-reliance in the area of determining their own scope of practice
  • Encourage independent critical thinking among nurses and midwives
  • Assist nurses and midwives overcome barriers and obstacles to the use of the scope of practice framework as experienced by practitioners.

NMBI statement regarding €150 payments
4/10/2015 - Following the decision by the Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) to reverse the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) back to €100 for 2015, NMBI is to hold the additional €50 associated with the €150 payments in the registrants’ names as credit towards their fee for 2016.
National Immunisation Office urges pertussis vaccination in pregnancy
4/7/2015 - In 2014, 73 cases of pertussis (or whooping cough) were notified in Ireland including 37 in infants, according to the HSE.
