An Bord Altranais and the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery are continuing to work together for the implementation of the Statutory Instrument No. 3 of 2010 (refer to 8 February 2010 news brief). New Nurses Rules are currently being drafted to establish the accreditation of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Midwife Practitioners posts and provide for the registration of individuals in new divisions of An Bord Altranais Register to be known as Advanced Nurse Practitioner Division and Advanced Midwife Practitioner Division. The Rules must be approved by the Board of An Bord Altranais and signed into effect by the Minister for Health and Children. These Rules will replace the Nurses Rules 2007.

The Board will meet on 19th April to review the Rules and the plan for implementation of these additional functions as part of its meeting agenda. The Board meeting on Monday, the 19th is open to the public, refer to the latest news section which gives details about attending on the day.
