Membership of the Appeals Committee

The Registration Appeals Committee is comprised of 9 members of the Board.  A quorum of 4 members are required to be in attendance for a Registration Appeal meeting to take place.

Following a Registration Appeals Committee meeting, the Committee may decide to:

1. Uphold the original decision
2. Seek further information
3. Issue a new decision (which may be less favourable to the applicant)

Statistics   -  Appeals  2009

The first stage in the educational review of a file is to re-examine the original assessment and decision. In the cases for appeal in 2009, where no new information was submitted, there was no change to the original decision in 100% of cases.

The second stage in the educational review process is to consider new information. New information pertains to information that was not submitted for the original assessment, for example, further education and training such as Graduate Nurse Programme; Internship programmes; other relevant programmes/courses; or clarification of any other matter.

In the appeals considered in 2009, 68% resulted in no change being made to the original decision. In the remaining 32% a decision was made in favour of the applicant as a result of new information.
